Economic Development Australia (EDA) is proud to partner with GrantGuru, Urban Enterprise and City of Melbourne to deliver three exciting activities for Day One of the 2024 National Economic Development Conference (NEDC)!

Held on Wednesday, 16 October, NEDC delegates have the opportunity to attend an additional activity of their choice, including a Study Tour, Masterclass and Walking Tour!

Each activity is based around the NEDC24 theme, The Power of Place, and provides attendees with the opportunity to be immersed in learning experiences showcasing various place-based economic development initiatives.

Join Urban Enterprise on an immersive tour of Melbourne’s North where a strong wave of innovative food manufacturing has led to the establishment of Australia’s largest food production cluster.

This tour will provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to gain firsthand insights into the innovative processes and strategies employed by leading food manufacturers in the area and hear how they are working with government agencies and private entities to cultivate success.

The itinerary includes visits to a number of facilities, where practitioners can observe progressive production techniques, sustainable practices, and advanced technology integration. The tour will also feature discussions with industry experts and leaders, offering insight into the factors driving success in Melbourne’s dynamic food manufacturing sector. This immersive experience aims to equip economic development professionals with practical knowledge and inspiration to foster growth and innovation in their own communities, all while being fuelled by some of the best food and drink produced on the doorstep of the CBD in Melbourne’s Northern suburbs and networking with your fellow food loving delegates.

The City of Melbourne walking tour commences with a visit to Melbourne’s famous laneways and coffee culture, where you can enjoy the city’s signature beverage on us while visiting unique small businesses. Delegates will travel by tram to the CBD north, to experience the state-of-the-art student facilities that make Melbourne the top international student city in Australia and the second in the world. This tour will also showcase the impressive State Library of Victoria, a popular destination for startups. The tour will include a visit to the Metro Tunnel HQ to see how this project is shaping the city’s future, and will conclude with a visit to the iconic Melbourne Town Hall to witness an imaginative blending of the physical and digital worlds, where technology brings the city’s data sets to life and illustrates how Melbourne is changing in real-time.
